Two of Indonesian migrant workers from Banyumas, Central Java, became the victims of the violence from their employer in Malaysia and Bahrain. The two of Indonesian migrant workers are Puji Lestari, from Ajibarang and Nur Hayati from Lumbir.
Puji has been working in Malaysia for 7 months. She has never come to Indonesia since she worked in Malaysia. She did not know the way to return to Indonesia. Puji said to her husband, Irwan, that she want to back home because she was often hit by her employer.
Meanwhile, Nur Hayati have returned to Indonesia successfully. However, she was suffering a heavy depression as the effects of the violence for her employer in Bahrain. She said that she did not want to return to Bahrain again.

One of the Indonesian guest workers from Cirebon, East Java fell from 8th floor in her employer’s apartment. She jumped from the apartment because she runaway from there. The speaker of embassy of Republic of Indonesia in Cairo, Danang Waskota, said that the corpse was lied in the Forensic Hospital.
He said that the embassy of Republic of Indonesia knew the tragedy from the police local. The suitcase and the clothes which was dotted about were founded in her employer’s house. Her employers were not at their apartment when the tragedy happened. Her employers was going on vacation.
She have worked in Egypt since April 2008. Actually, Egypt government did not allow household immigrant workers to come to that country. Danang admitted that there are several workers from Indonesia work on household.
The weakness of supervision and protection for the Indonesian guest workers from Indonesia government effected the case that similar with the slavery practice. Many migrant workers had experienced violence and sexual harassment.
The Human Right Watch (HRW) had been analyzing the treatment that was experienced by the migrant workers in Arab for 2 years, from December 2006 until March 2008. It founded the awkwardness and revealed the fact which was written in a book “Seolah Saya Bukan Manusia, Kesewenang-wenangan terhadap Pekerja Rumah Tangga Asia di Arab Saudi”.
If they had a good luck, the migrant workers would had good fieldwork in Arab. But in the other way, they would had a bad treatment from their employers. They would be hard done by their employer like a slave.
This fact was gotten by interviewed the 86 person of the migrant workers in Arab. HRW concluded that 36 person of the migrant workers had a bad treatment from their employer, such as trafficking, did not get the salary, and event they got hit by their employer.
Because of that, HRW played along with local LSM to persuade all element to more concern with fundamental rights of migrant workers. HRW hoped that the Indonesia and Arab government want to make some innovation in law to protect the migrant workers.
The number of the Indonesian guest workers who were sold to Iraq were believed increase. They were not placed run with their contract, so they got troubled to back to Indonesia. Their family hoped that Indonesia government could helped them.
Head of Information and Documentation of Association of Indonesia Migrant Workers (SBMI), Jamaludin, said that the number of the Indonesian guest workers who were sold to Iraq were 16 people. But one of the Indonesian guest workers in Iraq said that the number of the Indonesian guest workers who were sold were 50 people.
The Indonesian guest workers who were sold to Iraq come from Brebes and Indramayu. They stayed in camp of Bruska Agency in Kurdistan, Iraq. In camp, they worked without received the salary.
According to Jamaludin, SBMI had asked to Department of Foreign Affairs about the solution of this case, but they still could not back to Indonesia. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) had negotiated to Bruska Agency, but the agency threatened to explode the Indonesian guest workers.
Jamaludin also said that Brebes government had to insist the Department of Foreign Affairs to help the Indonesian guest worked who were trapped in Iraq to go back to Indonesia. It was because Iraq was the conflict area and it was dangerous for them.
Kiki (27), sister of Supriyatin (26), one of the Indonesia guest workers who was sold to Iraq said that she had the last contact with her sister was on 7th June. Her sister said that the number of Indonesian guest workers more increasingly. Kiki hoped her sister could went back to Indonesia safely.
Four Indonesian guest workers from Tegal were reported that they were being taken as hostages by one of a group of separatist in Somalia. They were Daimun (37), Sayoto (31), Slamet Riyadi (26), and Said Basyar (45). They worked as a ship crew of Asman I from Oman.
They departed to Oman not trough over Indonesia manpower agency. So far, Said and Sayoto had experienced to work as a ship crew in Oman, so they had become accustomed to work in Oman illegally. They got the consignment of ticket from the owner of the ship.
Sayoto’s wife, Erni, said that commonly, her husband worked in Oman just 1 year. He should had come back to Indonesia on March, but on 21st January this year, her husband told her that he was being taken as hostage by separatist from Somalia in the middle of sea. She also said that this separatist asked for the compensation money, but she did not know how much money they asked for.
Indonesian manpower escort staff of Labour and Transmigration Department for Tegal Region, Darmanto, said that they are investigating this case now. He had asked for help from the Department of Foreign Affairs. Erni hope that her husband could come home safely.
Unfortunate fate happened again to Indonesian guest workers who worked in Arab. This happened to Suprihatin, Indonesian guest worker from Banyumas, Central Java.
She determined to jump from the second floor of her employer’s house in Riyadh, Arab. She did it because her employer threatened her by a blade. She is still lying weak in Semesi Hospital, Arab, up to the moment.
Miftahudin, who is the victim’s brother, gone to The House of People’s Representative Banyumas to complaint about this case. He said that his family wanted to bring Suprihatin back to Indonesia, but she was deterred by her employer.
He said that his sister often received rough treatment from her employer. It was the reason why she jumped from the second floor.
She has already worked four times overseas. But this time, she got a bad luck. She was moved twice in four months.
Suprihatin was departed by PT Alfa Nusantara Perkasa. Meanwhile, People’s of Representative said that they have tried to complaint to Manpower and Transmigration Division to vet this case.
BNP2TKI confessed that they are facing the problem of sending back Indonesian guest workers who were proven guilty in Arab. Dozens of the Indonesian guest workers in Arab faced death sentence.
Chief of BNP2TKI, Moh Jumhur Hidayat said that many of Indonesian guest workers in Arabic who were proven guilty got the death sentence. He said after attending the declaration of The Combination of The Association of All The Driver of Indonesia in Puspitek, Banten.
Unfortunately, Jumhur did not explain the existence of these Indonesian guest workers. Moreover, BNP2TKI collided by Islamic law system that was applied in that country. He said that they found the problem of releasing the Indonesian guest workers in Arabic who were threatened by death sentence.
The problem was the process of amnesty must came from victim’s family. This condition was different with another countries, such as in Malaysia and Singapore.
Jumhur said that they succeeded in helping and releasing several Indonesian guest workers who were threatened by death sentence. As many as 7 Indonesian guest workers in Malaysia and 3 people in Singapore succeeded in beating the rap a few years ago.
To be known, Yanti Iriyanti, one of Indonesian guest workers in Arab who was threatened by death sentence has been executed. She was proven guilty of murdering and stealing money from her employer.
The Union of The Arabian Emirate (UEA) opened 370 thousand new employment opportunies for Indonesian. Hundreds of thousands of new appointments moved in the formal sector of the construction field, the health, and tourism.
Manpower Minister UEA government, Ali Abdullah Al-Kaabhi, said at this time UEA often needed formal sector manpower of Indonesia. He said that his side the appointment of the Indonesian guest worker in UEA became the co-operation G to G, when ending signed the MOU with Manpower and Transmigration Minister, Erman Suparno.
